Poltergeist is a mid 19th century term used to describe a spiritual force or ghost that manifests itself by moving and influencing inanimate objects.
| |
Reports of poltergeist activity typically feature heavily on raps, bumps, thumps, knocks, footsteps, and bed-shaking, all without a discernible point of origin or physical reason for occurrence. Many accounts also detail objects being thrown about the room, furniture being moved, and even people being levitated.

Origin of word (Etymology) |
| |
The word “poltergeist” was first formed in the German language around 1838 meaning “noisy ghost”. The word is constructed from two German words “Poltern” ="make noise, rattle" + Geist ="ghost".
| |
Hence, in one sense, poltergeist literally means an ghost manifesting itself in actual phenomena compared to the traditional, although extremely rare examples of apparition.

One Heaven definition of poltergeist
| |
The One Heaven definition of poltergeist activity is:
| |
A poltergeist is an outward manifestation of psychological trauma usually associated to a building, property and/or persons whereby a person or persons known as an agent or focus with strong kinetic abilities is unable to resolve their emotional state.
| |
Under this definition the person or persons may or may not be deceased. However, what is significant in this definition is the clear distinction from ghost in that the source of power of a poltergeist relates to the fuel of psychological and emotional trauma, whereas a ghost may or may not be present in this state.
| |
In cases where poltergeist activity is caused by living individuals in a psychological traumatized state, through appropriate medical and psychological assistance, such occurrences should be dramatically reduced. No spiritual intervention, nor religious procedures are required in any way.
| |
However, in cases where poltergeist activity is related to the state of mind of departed souls haunting land, buildings, property or individuals, only spiritual intervention and assistance through appropriate actions and the proper authorities in the constitution of One Heaven can have best effect.
